Community Farm Crew

Apply to join our community farm crew! When needs arise for helping hands on farms in our community, we will post a call for support to this crew. Seeking aspiring and practicing Asian land stewards looking to be in closer relationship with our ancestral plant relatives and foodways. Apply today!

We are exploring this program to weave sustaining relationships between farms and community members (beyond one-off volunteering), in hopes that investing in relationships can ease the effort required from farmers to reach out for support. 

1. Submit an application. 

2. Upon acceptance, you will be added to our Farm Crew Google group that serves as our main communication space. 

3. Opportunities and events will be posted to this group by farmers, and you’ll reply directly if you’re available (not reply-all). Opportunities will be offered on a “first come first serve” basis. 

4. For opportunities involving 1-3 people, individuals will be responsible for sorting out transportation with the farmer and potentially other crew members.  

5. For groups larger than 3, Choy Commons will provide support for transportation, coordination, and facilitation.

Q&A

This is a program is an effort of reciprocity, and not paid work. Instead of monetary exchange for your labor, each experience will offer something in exchange for your time depending on the farm and season. This may manifest as transportation cost share, a meal, shared harvest, herbs, seeds, or knowledge. 

For the physical and psychological safety of our community, we are inviting interested individuals to complete a brief application to share more about their intentions to join our crew. This application serves as a gesture of consent to nurture a community of kindness, openness, and brave vulnerability. 

People who identify as Asian, Asian American, or Pacific Islander will be prioritized for participation in our opportunities and community experiences.
